Scott Smith Orthodontics: Launceston
Dr Smith is a Principal Orthodontist with a dental career spanning over 18 years. He started Scott Smith Orthodontics (SSO) in 2008 with the aim to provide dedicated community based specialist orthodontic care in Launceston and the northwest coast of Tasmania. Graduating with a Dental Degree (BDS) from the University of Adelaide in 1992, Dr Smith completed his fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (FRACDS) in 1999. Dr Smith then dedicated 8 years to paediatric dental care as a hospital staff dentist, lecturer to the University of Adelaide and head of the dental unit at the Adelaide Women’s and Children’s Hospital. Experienced in working with children and teenagers, he is a fantastic communicator. In 2006 Dr Smith completed a three-year full time postgraduate Doctorate in Clinical Dentistry (DocClinDent(Ortho)), qualifying him as a specialist in orthodontics and moved to Tasmania with his wife and two boys to enjoy working in a smaller community, embracing the outdoor activities on offer in Tasmania. Dr Smith is an avid road cyclist and mountain biker. When he is not working in orthodontics, you will often spot him out and about around Launceston and the north coast on his bike.
Dr Prem Patel joined Scott Smith Orthodontics in February 2019. Prem previously worked as a general dentist at Caledonian Dental (now Maven Dental) in Launceston for three years, before moving to Adelaide in 2014 to add to his orthodontic qualifications. In 2015, Prem achieved first class honours before postgraduate study in orthodontics in 2016. He has since completed his MOrth examination, gainingMembership in Orthodontics of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, UK and a Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Dental Surgeons (FRACDS). Prem is a devout cricket fan who also loves playing tennis, reading, listening to music, playing the guitar, and travelling.
