Ocean Orthodontics: Maroochydore
Dr Arun Shailendran graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree and practiced general dentistry for ten years. He began pursuing his Doctor of Clinical Dentistry degree at the University of Queensland in 2017.
During those three years of full-time specialist orthodontic training, Dr Shailendran presented his research work at the American Association of Orthodontists conference, the Australian Society of Orthodontists meetings and at the Orthodontic Society of Ireland conference, where he secured a podium finish at the Seamus Keating Award competition.
Dr Shailendran has obtained additional specialist membership diplomas from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons. He is a Registered Specialist Orthodontist with the Dental Board of Australia and a Member of the Australian Society of Orthodontists, the American Association of Orthodontists, the European Orthodontic Society, and the World Federation of Orthodontists.
Dr Shailendran believes that the best patient outcomes are obtained by combining high-quality research with excellent clinical acumen. To continue providing this high level of care, he continues to conduct research and regularly attends both national and international orthodontic meetings. He also loves to teach and has been teaching both the undergraduate dentistry students and postgraduates in Orthodontics at the University of Queensland.
Raised in India, Dr Shailendran moved to Australia in 2009. Outside the office, he enjoys spending time with his young daughter, playing backyard cricket. He also loves to travel and explore new cultures around the world.
Born and raised in Canberra, Dr Melissa Nguyen graduated from Griffith University with a Bachelor of Oral Health in Dental Science and a Graduate Diploma of Dentistry. She then went on to complete a Doctorate of Clinical Dentistry in Orthodontics from the University of Adelaide. Previously, Dr Nguyen has spent time as a dentist in private practice, and as a clinical supervisor at Griffith University.
A certified specialist from the Australasian Orthodontic Board, Dr Nguyen and has been awarded esteemed memberships to the Royal Australian College of Dental Surgeons and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, alongside placements within the Australian Orthodontic Society, the American Orthodontic Society, the European Orthodontic Society and the Australian Dental Association.
Adding to her achievements, Dr Nguyen’s research has been published in the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, and her passion for education has led her to present lectures at both local and international orthodontic conferences.
When she is not researching the latest in Orthodontic and dentistry developments or learning to play the acoustic guitar, Dr Nguyen enjoys traveling, Pilates and spending time with family and friends.
