Dr. Anél Blignaut was born and raised in South Africa and completed her dental degree at the University of Stellenbosch in 2001. After working in Cape Town and then the Netherlands for a few years, she took a sabbatical year to travel the world. In 2007 she moved to Cairns to work for Queensland Health and fell in love with Australia.

Anél rediscovered her passion for orthodontics and improving smiles whilst working alongside an orthodontist in the School Dental Clinics and decided to pursue her interest. She completed her specialist training as an orthodontist at the University of Sydney in 2014, simultaneously obtaining Membership to the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons and certification from the Australian Orthodontic Board.

In 2015, she took over the long-standing orthodontic practice in Manly and immediately settled into the wonderful lifestyle that the Northern Beaches has to offer. Anél continues being an integral part of the orthodontic society and served as the treasurer for the Sydney Orthodontic Alumni for 6 years. She is currently the president of the Australian Society of Orthodontists, the Vice President of the Manly Warringah Dental Study Group, and a committee member for the Community Information Committee in charge of the Orthodontics Australia website and social media pages.

Anél continues to enjoy learning more about her profession and attends yearly conferences and clinical days, participates in digital forums discussing clinical cases, and lectures at local study groups, and is an Honorary Clinical Educator at the University of Sydney’s Orthodontic Department.

Anél is very approachable, takes great care in ensuring that her patients are well-informed about their treatment, and has a strong focus on clinical excellence. Most importantly, she loves what she does! For her, there is no better reward than seeing a happy smile at the end of orthodontic treatment.
