Dr Tan completed his general dental training at the University of Sydney in 1981 with Honours. He was awarded a Masters Degree of Dental Surgery in Orthodontics in 1984 which completed his formal training in the specialised field of orthodontics.

In 1986, Dr Tan was admitted as a Fellow of Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons. Further the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons elected Dr Tan as a member of the College in the Special Field of Orthodontics (MRACDS orthodontics).

Dr Tan is a highly qualified orthodontic specialist and is registered as a full member of the Australian Dental Association and the Australian Society of Orthodontists. The Australian Society of Orthodontics is the peak industry body and only admits members who are appropriately accredited.

In 1990 he was appointed a Specialist Clinical lecturer in the Postgraduate specialist orthodontic training. He has trained future orthodontists at Westmead Dental Hospital and continues to teach students at the Sydney Dental Hospital.

In 1988, Dr Tan opened his own specialist orthodontic practice in the City of Parramatta. He has practiced orthodontics for over 30 years and has transformed the smiles of many adults and children in the community. His impact on the community was far reaching, attracting patients from all over Sydney and even as far as Canberra. He is well respected by his patients who frequently recommend his services to family and friends, some even return as adults with their children to see the orthodontist they trusted as a child.

Currently Dr Tan provides the same level of specialized orthodontic service in a caring and friendly environment at HCF Dental Sydney CBD.

Outside of work, Dr Tan is married with two children and enjoys spending time with them. In his spare time he loves to travel the world, read and play badminton.
