Dr Sam Whittle, MDS (Adelaide), MRACDS, FICD completed his orthodontic training at The University of Adelaide after practising as a dentist for eight years in the Royal Australian Navy. He later retired as the Fleet Dental Surgeon after 13 years of Navy service and moved back to Adelaide in private practice. He was involved in clinical teaching of both undergraduate and postgraduate students at The University of Adelaide. He was Secretary of the ASO South Australian Branch. Dr Whittle moved to Canberra in 2000 where he now practices.
He has been a visiting Clinical Orthodontic Associate at the University of Sydney but now travels to Adelaide each month to teach clinical orthodontics to the postgraduate orthodontic residents at The University of Adelaide. He was President of the ASO NSW Branch before becoming Federal Treasurer and then NSW Councillor.
Dr Whittle and his wife Heather have three adult children, and Dr Whittle enjoys sport, particularly cricket, rugby union, snow-skiing and fishing. He is an active senior rugby referee in the ACT, coaching and mentoring school-age referees, and is the current President of the ACT Rugby Referees Association.
