Having completed his Bachelor of Dental Surgery with Honours at the University of Sydney, Dr Tan has worked in both in private practice and as a Senior Dental Officer at the Westmead Centre for Oral Health (Metropolitan and Rural Clinics) for a number of years before completing his Masters in Dental Science (Orthodontics) at the University of Sydney.

He has also completed the Australian Society of Implant Dentistry Accreditation, and has become a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh), Member of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (Orthodontics), Member of the Australian Dental Association and a Member of the Australian Society of Orthodontists. Dr Tan has held previous memberships with a number of dental affiliated groups. He has been involved in the education of undergraduate students, both for clinical dentistry and also the undergraduate orthodontic program and provides seminars to General Dental Practitioners.

He has vast experience in straight-wire (conventional and self-ligation), lingual orthodontics, sequential clear aligners (“Invisalign”), dentofacial orthopaedics and interdisciplinary management (restorative and orthognathics) as well as been trained in the latest advancements in orthodontics, attaining accreditation in the use of mini-screws and customisable conventional and lingual orthodontics.

Peter was born and raised in Sydney where he attended Fort Street High School. After completing high school Peter travelled to Adelaide to complete his Bachelor of dental surgery. Peter returned to Sydney to work in private practice and to tutor oral surgery students at the University of Sydney. He received his Doctor of Clinical Dentistry in Orthodontics at the University of Sydney in 2015.

Peter also has completed a Masters in Philosophy at the University of Sydney, where he won the Sydney University research award in 2014. He is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in the general dental field, a member of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons and the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh in the field of orthodontics all by examination.

Peter has a special interest in sleep apnoea and offers his time volunteering as the consultant orthodontist in a specialised multidisciplinary sleep team every month in the Illawarra. In his spare time, Peter enjoys playing tennis and spending time with his wife and young child.
